Meet Sarah
I grew up in University Place and now live in the Lakewood/Steilacoom area with my husband, two teen girls (well, one is now at BSU), and dogs, Baxter and Doug. I was born into the Christian tradition, and after “deconstructing” much of my faith, I continue to lean on the teachings of Jesus, as well as embracing any wisdom that leads to love and wholeness. I have worked in several service non-profits over the years, traveled to many countries, and have taught group fitness classes since 1998, where I began as an aerobics instructor for the PE department at WSU. I hold a Spiritual Direction certification from St. Placid Priory as well as a degree in Kinesiology and Health and Wellness. Combining these disciplines and experiences has led me to Madrona Journey. I am passionate about guiding others, as well as myself, into holistic wellness and recognizing the inter-connectedness of our minds, bodies, and spirits.
Why Madrona Journey?
Salish legend says that the roots of a Madrona tree “hold the earth together.” Madrona tree roots hold a variety of mycorrhizal fungal species on their roots that help them establish communities with other tree species and increase access to vital resources for them to thrive. (thelichenist.com) This is my passion - to create non-judgmental space for people to connect to the Divine, themselves, and each other. I use spiritual practices, the Enneagram, movement, journaling, guided meditation, and compassionate listening to share “vital resources” for other to thrive on their journey of life.
Spiritual Direction has been transformational in my own life, both with an individual director and being a part of a group. I am here to walk alongside anyone on their journey and especially feel drawn to those who have left organized religion, their church, and/or their faith.
